Record snowfall in Texas

Each winter we have lived in TX we have seen a little snow, usually just an inch or so.  This year was different.  The weather forecasters predicted about 4 inches but we ended up with 9 inches (approx 22 cm) in our neighbourhood and other places ended up with up to 12 inches.  The kids were stoked, as were we, we haven't seen snow like that since leaving New England and it is nice to get a chance to play in it again.  Especially now that the kids are bigger and you dont have to worry about them getting lost in a snow drift LOL

Before I get to the numerous snow pictures from our record snow fall I wanted to post these pictures of my 8 year old son Campbell.  He fell off his chair while sitting at the computer and hit his chin on the keyboard draw?!?!

Valentine's Day

Yes yes, I know this is rather late for Valentines Day....almost two weeks late in fact.  Oh well, better late than never I suppose.  We don't normally make a big deal out of this particular holiday but we do buy the kids choccies to enjoy, usually in a heart shaped container and Jeremy does normally buy me roses.  I mentioned that I might like some good quality chocolate this year and he obliged :)   The day started with heart shaped pancakes with maple syrup, toast with red sprinkles and fresh strawberries.  Lunch was chocolate heh heh and Dinner was steak with a red wine mushroom sauce, roasted broccoli and baked potatoes.  Here are the roses from Jeremy with the dessert I made for us that night. It was all yummy and and we were stuffed by the end.  We drank some Fat Bastard wine with our steak :)

On Tuesday we had a party with our homeschooling group.  It was freezing at the park and there was still a bit of snow on the ground.  As usual the kids didn't notice the cold because they were running around like hooligans!

He was fine, unharmed, the photos make it look bad but he made it through those branches without a scratch....pays to be small I guess!

Science experiments

Campbell bought a tasty science kit with some of his birthday money from his 8th birthday.  He enlisted my help but did most of the work himself.  We were testing the family's taste buds for sweetness preferences.

I cooked them for the same length of time, batch b could have used less time in the oven.  Batch B has more sugar.  Most of the family preferred Batch A because we found B too sweet but the crunchiness of B was yummy :)
